13th December - Jaxannah! at Kaanaanmaa

It was a damp evening outside Kaanaanma the Jewellers for our 13th Living Advent Calendar performance, but the outstanding Jaxannah! (a close harmony singing group offering a mix of light Christmas music with a folky feel) drew the crowds in with their renditions of "away in a manger", "hark" & "do you hear what I hear".

Tonight join us at Clifton Ingram Solicitors for another outstanding performance by act The Remnants.

19th December - Gillie at Kaanaanmaa

Saturday 19th saw us at Kaanaanmaa the jewellers for another Wokingham Living Advent Calendar performance. Gillie performed a light-hearted jazz standards set, including popular American Songbook compositions, with a touch of Tina Turner!

Kaanaanmaa were great hosts providing some tasty refreshments to the gathered crowd.

The Wokingham paper has a lovely article with photos of the event.

Later that evening Gillie made a special appearance at Code Boutique with the Wokingham Living Advent Calendar team to support a special performance put on to celebrate the life of Cloudglider Elisa who sadly passed away this year. Ex Cloudglider singers and students joined in with some songs to remember her.

Tonight the WLAC will be at Broad Street Tavern for a little bit of Woodley Theatre.

18th December: Cloudglider at Kaanaanmaa

The festive spirit was in full force last night with a fantastic performance by two young ladies from Cloudglider at Kaanaanmaa’s Jewellers on Denmark Street. Christina arrived in the UK earlier this year with only a smattering of English. Roll forward and she can be heard out and about singing at various events and open mic nights She has just been signed up to sing at a charity  fashion show in 2015 and is definitely one to watch for the future. Christina performed a number of songs including “Silent Night” and “Silver Bells”.

Caz Hill is in high demand both as a soloist and as the lead singer of the band "All Cramped Up". She has trained with Elisa Ghoebriel from Cloudglider for several years. Caz performed a number of songs including “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree”, “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and a medley including” I wish I could be Christmas every day” and “Do they know it’s Christmas”.

At Cloudglider, singers learn their art. Cloudglider can provide anything from solo singers through to a fully staged production. To date we have performed at events including charity balls, gala fashion shows, all kinds of festivals,  weddings, wedding receptions, pub charity nights and also themed events including nights at the theatre, nights at the movies, rat pack, 70s, divas and Christmas.

Tonight I hope you will join us at Brown Bag Café just across the road from Kaanaanmaa for another brilliant performance.

17th December 2013 - Saskia at Kaanaanmaa

We were joined on Tuesday night by local lass Saskia Lorrison.

"Saskia is a local singer songwriter who has just completed her first term at Canterbury Christchurch University.  She is always happy to perform back in her hometown."

Saskia performed a range of music including some popular Christmas songs, accompanied on guitar to an audience of around 40. Kaanaanmaa the Jewellers was our venue for this evening and although their shop cannot be seen in any image taken last night they very much made us welcome and provided the much needed power.

Please enjoy this selection of photos from the evening.

There was also a short video taken by a friend of Saskia's who has graciously allowed us to share here. It is on facebook so not everyone may be able to view it.

December 10th 2012 - Victoria Pugh outside Kaanaanmaa

It was an evening of poetry outside Kaanaanmaa Jewellers last night.

Victoria Pugh, local poet published by Two Rivers Press performed a number of her works before our wonderful hosts Kaanaanmaa served mince pies to the audience.

There were funny poems, a Christmas poem, a shopping poem, a sad poem and a poem about ivy, all and all very seasonal.

She started with an altered version of the carol“Deck the Halls” that had the crowd in fits of laughter between singing their Fa-la-la-la-laas.  She then went on to a number of her other works including: “Viewpoint” and “Evergreen”.

The poem about shopping, “Romance and Reality”, you can watch below.
