8th December - Thames Valley Community Choir at H20

Tuesday, 8th December saw us at Wokingham Hair Salon H20 for a choral performance by the “Singhealthy” Thames Valley Community Choir.

The TVCC were formed in 2014 to perform The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins in Reading Hexagon.  This concert was a sell out with over £6000 being donated to Reverse Rett.  Part of singhealthychoirs TVCC continues to work towards charity fundraising performances and is open to anyone who wants to sing, with no audition or musical knowledge required. Their next concert is in Reading Concert Hall 20th December with the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra and Coombes School Choir.

They performed carols and festive tunes including “Holly and the Ivy”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Candlelight Carol” and “Angels’ Carol”. Do enjoy this short video of the latter.

Tonight we will be at the Hope & Anchor for night 9 of the Wokingham Living Advent Calendar with local musician Bruce Neil.

9th December - Fleet Morris

There was great energy at H2O last night with the dances of Morris side Fleet Morris. These ladies performed a series of dances including those that use sticks and handkerchiefs.

Fleet Morris was formed in 1984, and has a wide repertoire of dances, mainly in the Cotswold style.  Their dances are based round those from the villages of Adderbury, Bampton, Ducklington, Fieldtown and Lichfield, with a few Border dances thrown in to change the tempo.

The audience were invited to join in the dancing which they attempted with great gusto. As well as those who braved the cold there was also a curious few watching from the warm Waitrose Café.

We hope to see you again tonight for another fab performance. Tonight it is at Martin and Pole who have this message for you all.

“A festive indoor welcome awaits at Martin & Pole, Wokingham’s longest established Estate Agents and Chartered Surveyors. We have supported this event from its foundation in 2012 and have been credited as providing the best refreshments including seasonal food and drink and even Haribo sweets for children of all ages. We look forward to your company.”

10th December - Stage Fright Theatre Company at H20 Hairdressers

Tuesday evening found us watching a Living Advent Calendar in a Living Advent Calendar.

Confused? Let me explain.

Wokingham based Youth Theatre company Stage Fright had devised a short play around the idea of an Advent Calendar. Actors popped out from a 2 metre tall wooden construction complete with advent doors to portray scenes from the nativity story with a modern twist to them.

In their own words:

"Inspired by traditional advent calendars, behind each of whose windows you might find an episode from the Christmas Story, Stage-fright presents a series of short interactions.  The dialogue has been written by the group.  We hope that what you see through these windows will bring some of the characters to life."

The new play was performed by: Abby Clark, Alice Frost, Cerys McKenna, Edward Scott, Elise Martin, Emily Agg, Emma Westgate, Erin Hutchings, Harry Pelling, Lexie Margetts, Niamh, Hutchings, Paris Martin, Will Farndon and Yohannah Tadewos. It was directed by: Michael Johnson, Rosie Thomas and Hannah Whiting with a set by Paul Dosier and music by Sufjan Stevens. www.stage-fright.org.uk

Below watch a short compilation of clips from the performance.

Our host venue for this evening was H20, a hairdressers on Rose Street.

Tonight you will find us at Christopher James Estate Agents on Denmark Street for another surprise performance.
