Harmony was
in full force last night with members of the wonderful Thames Valley Chorus
performing as a barber shop style group in front of The Local Barber Shop.
Thames Valley Chorus gives the audience a unique and thrilling sound of men singing
in four-part harmony. Enjoy the vocal
blend, energy and ringing chords of unaccompanied singing at it's best.
That
introduction certainly sums them up, a crowd of around 30 - 40 people came to
what could be called one of the best evenings as of yet.
The group wowed the audience with numbers including songs from Broadway
musicals and well known Christmas tunes all in classic four part harmony.
The
highlight of the evening was the lively rendition of “Is This the Way to Amarillo” which got the
crowd singing along.
Formed in 1974 the Thames Valley Chorus is the main
performing choir of the Reading Barbershop Harmony Club and is one of Europe's top male-voice a cappella singing
groups. The 40+ members of the chorus come from all walks of life just to
create the distinctive sound of men singing in close harmony. Performances on
TV, radio and stage have included London's "Proms in the Park", BBC
TV's Record Breakers, a UK tour with the RAF Band, with Robbie Williams on
ITV's Ant & Dec Christmas Special, a season at Windsor's Legoland, and
representing the UK at two International Choir Festivals (gold award winners
both times!). Their website is http://www.tvchorus.co.uk/
The Local Barber Shop is located in Montague House, 31 Broad Street and is a member of the Good Barbers Guide. www.thelocalbarbershop.com
Tonight’s performance is right next door, with The Electric
