23rd December - G3 at Code Boutique

We had a rocking time last night at Code Boutique and were very glad to have Code invite us in as the wind was gusting outside. There was a great turnout, some of the audience even having to watch from outside as it was so packed inside.

Cllr Mark Ashwell welcomed us all to the performance by G3 and to Code Boutique who put on a great selection of seasonal refreshments.

G3 play gutsy rock/blues music in the style of the inimitable Tina Turner. The act is usually a trio but for this performance they had invited a harmonica player, Raphael to join them.

They performed a number of popular and seasonal songs including “Proud Mary” and “Nutbush City Limits” originally by Tina Turner, ”Stand By Me” originally by Ben E King and “Lonely this Christmas” by Mud.

They had the audience singing and bopping along to the performance and even managed to persuade Cllr Ashwell to join in on a section of “Lonely this Christmas”. A great penultimate performance.

Tonight we will be at St Pauls Church for the final performance. I would urge that if you are still not sure that you come along, the Christmas Eve performance is always a special one.

22nd December 2014 - Me and Mrs Jones at Dollshouse Boutique

Last night saw the return of Me and Mrs Jones at Dollshouse Boutique. Previously performing here in the 2012 Living Advent Calendar they presented a lively modern jive performance.

“Modern jive can be danced to most kinds of music and can be fast or slow. The dance is varied and ever developing and can include all kinds of steps including Latin and ballroom. We would be happy to teach you how to jive and are available for private lessons. We also teach simple first dances for the bride and groom at their wedding and can teach simple routines for any other occasion.” Me and Mrs Jones

Dancing to songs including the Toploader hit “Dancing in the Moonlight” Me and Mrs Jones wowed the crowd to some impressive high energy moves and even managed to get some of the audience to have a go.

Tonight do join us for the penultimate performance at Code Boutique on Peach Street.

21st December - Live Nativity in Howard Palmer Gardens

Sunday night was the Live Nativity.  Local theatre community Bottletop took up the task of presenting their own spin on the traditional Christmas story but they didn't stop just there.

From 3pm the audience arrived in the Market Place to enjoy a mini festival, with fun crafty stalls like santa beard making, seasonal refreshments and musical entertainment by local acts.

Just before 4pm the audience was led by a donkey to Howard Palmer Gardens for the main performance. The Wokingham Christian Community came together to present this telling of the Nativity story with actors sourced from a number of churches across the area.

There was a fabulous atmosphere in the park that day with around 600 people of all ages enjoying the performance.

Please enjoy this small selection of photographs from the performance.

There is also an excellent article on the event from Get Wokingham.
