Before the wind and rain hit last night we have a unique
performance by Stage-Fright Theatre Company. Entitled “Lost Baubles” it was a
retelling of the Christmas Story from the perspective of Herod’s Court.
Herod’s son, in charge while his father is away, is plagued
by nightmares. Looking to cheer himself up he decides to celebrate his birthday,
albeit many months early. After consultation with various functionaries of the
court; soothsayer, astronomer etc, to pick the perfect date for his celebration
he finally picks the 25th although he is warned that a new king
would be born that day. While planning the celebration his father returns,
having heard about the birth from one of the Wise Men, berates his son for his
wishy-washy way of running his Kingdom and makes his own plans to “celebrate”
the new King’s birth.
Of course according to biblical sources the Magi (Wise Men)
never told Herod where Jesus was born and the family fled Bethlehem shortly
after his birth, having been warned in a dream.
Antique Rose in Bush Walk was the venue for this performance
and looked after the 30 or so audience members really well.
Stage Fright provide opportunities for individuals and
groups to creatively explore life experiences, involvement in community,
ethics, morality, personal, social and spiritual health and wholeness.
